Still, some exercises will be easier than others, and it’s the best book I know for applied keyboard harmony. I believe theory needs to be applied, not simply done on paper. Wedge’s book will have you work out all exercises directly at the piano. The book can be found used or as a reprint.
Mark has written some wonderful books ("The Jazz Piano Book" in particular is a jazz education masterpiece), but Phil's book organizes these practice materials for jazz keyboard voicings in a way that no one has.

Hey guys, I'm am a beginner composer. I'm planning to get a text-book to teach myself harmony. Right now I'm leaning towards Theory of Harmony by Arnold Schoenberg or Harmony by Walter Piston. So I'm looking for a book about music theory / Harmony to continue my studies. The more practical it is, the better (have a lot of exercises in it, and contemporary - not teaching you techniques that you'd use in 18th century) I'm not into classical music, I play mostly a wierd.
